Like clockwork, Samsung has been unveiling its new foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z, at the same time every year for the past seven years. Revealed on July 9th (and despite numerous leaks online), the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be available on July 25th. What's new? What are the prices? Will you be able to afford one? 20 Minutes was able to get their hands on them.
A slimmer Fold
The Galaxy Z Fold is a smartphone that opens in two, like a book. Its seventh iteration immediately catches the eye thanks to its extremely thin design. While it measures 8.9 mm when closed, it measures 4.4 mm when open, a 26% reduction compared to its predecessor, the Z Fold 6! Launched a year ago, it measured 5.6 mm when open.
The key for the new kid on the block is a more flattering design, but above all, a smartphone that will take up less space in a pocket. Imagine: the Z Fold 7 is barely thicker when opened than its USB-C port...
When closed, its external screen is 6.5" (compared to 6.2" last year). When opened, it reveals 8 inches. It's definitely a mini-tablet. This large screen (QXGA+) has also been reinforced. Paradoxically, it's 50% thicker, covered with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and surrounded by an Armor aluminum frame, renowned for its "military" strength. This should reassure some. In hand, it also seems that the crease in the middle of the screen is a little less visible.
Its rear camera unit houses a 200-megapixel wide-angle main sensor with autofocus and 2x optical zoom. It's the same sensor as on the Galaxy S25 Ultra and S25 Edge. Plus: a 3x optical telephoto lens (70mm equivalent) with a 10-megapixel sensor, as well as an ultra-wide-angle lens with autofocus and macro (12 megapixels). The selfie camera features a new 10-megapixel sensor with a 100° viewing angle.
The new Fold is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. A handsome beast. Its 4,400 mAh battery charges via 25W mains power and 10W wirelessly. So, there's no supercharging, as with some manufacturers, such as Xiaomi or Honor. According to Samsung, the Galaxy Z Fold 7's battery life should be 24 hours for video recording, an hour longer than its predecessor.
larger screen on the front for the Flip
The Galaxy Z Flip is a smartphone inspired by older clamshell smartphones. Here, there's no slimming down compared to the previous generation (it measures 13.7 mm thick when closed and 6.5 mm when open, for 188 grams). On the other hand, its external screen has been transformed, going from 3.4'' to 4.1''.
