Russia continues its advance. On Sunday, July 6, Moscow claimed the capture of two new towns in eastern and northeastern Ukraine. According to the daily report from the Ministry of Defense, Russian troops captured the village of Piddubne in the Donetsk region. In the Kharkiv region, the army claimed the capture of Sobolivka, in an area where positions had not moved for months.

Faced with Ukrainian troops lacking weapons and recruits, Russian forces have accelerated their advance over the past three months, after having completely recaptured in March and April the territories occupied by the Ukrainians since the summer of 2024 in the Russian border region of Kursk. A massive drone attack on Friday

Russian gains on the ground in June were the largest since November 2024, according to an AFP analysis of data provided by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a Washington-based think tank. Meanwhile, Russia has carried out several waves of massive nighttime strikes on Ukraine in recent weeks.

On Friday, the Russian military fired more than 530 explosive drones and a dozen missiles, notably at Kyiv, killing at least two people. It was the most massive drone attack since the beginning of the conflict, according to Ukrainian authorities.
