Customs Duties: Towards an Agreement? Europe's Insiders of July 6

Every Sunday, an aspect of European news with François Beaudonnet, editor-in-chief of the European team at France Télévisions, and our guests.

Is the European Union close to an agreement with the US administration on customs duties, after the three-month pause imposed by Donald Trump?

On Saturday, July 5, Economy Minister Eric Lombard said he hoped for an agreement "this weekend." For three months, Europeans have been negotiating tooth and nail with the United States, trying by all means to avoid the application of punitive customs duties, which could reach 60 or 70%. Discussions are continuing, and a delegation from the European Commission has traveled to Washington once again. Because there is indeed a deadline set by Donald Trump himself: next Wednesday, July 9.

To discuss this, Benjamin Fontaine and François Beaudonnet will welcome Stéphane Vernay, deputy editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper Ouest-France in Paris, and Alain Guillemoles, permanent correspondent in Brussels for the daily newspaper La Croix.
